From childhood friends to married: a real wedding

What were your original plans for your wedding day? Something bigger? We originally planned a large wedding of 300+ guests on May 9, 2021 at the Eglinton Grand in Toronto.

How did you feel about changing plans? It was an emotional rollercoaster. We were disappointed to not be able to get married that day; we had planned for our day for almost 2 years. It was also very stressful to be under constant uncertainty with all the daily/weekly changes, venue struggles, dress alterations and suit making during lockdown, and investing money into an event that we envisioned going differently. After all was said and done, we decided to postpone our wedding to July. And even though at the time we couldn’t see it, it was the right decision!

What was your favourite part of the day? My favourite part of the day was walking down the aisle with my dad towards my husband. My eyes were set on him, like nothing else mattered at that point. When I finally got to him it felt surreal! The other highlight of our day was when we had our alone time after the ceremony. It’s definitely a long awaited moment where it’s just you and your loved one, embracing everything that had just happened and coming to the realization that it’s finally over, in a good way of course, and that your life together had finally begun.

What will guests remember most about the day? Good food, great entertainment and company, and happy vibes filled with love everywhere.

What advice can you give to couples planning their wedding? Make decisions on what’s important to you and trust your gut! Don’t focus on the little stuff especially the day of the wedding. If things go wrong just let it, because it will anyway. Nobody cares at that point – everyone’s too busy having fun and celebrating you anyway, so might as well enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime moment.
